Day 1 - Friday 13 July 2012 Collected my mother-in-law, shirley last night so she sit in while the work is under way. Expecting the workmen to start on the bathroom at 8.30am today, set the alarm for 7.10am to be sure we are up washed and dressed before they get here.
8.30 been and gone, no signs of the feckers. 8.45am door bell rings, here they are. I am informed it can take up to TEN days to complete, I can't think why, we have one of those bathrooms where you can wash your feet in the bath while you sit on the loo having a c**p, it's that small 9.15am, am informed they need to go out for half an hour to get a delivery - Bloody hell I say to myself shouldn't the delivery be in the back of their van - namely our new bathroom??
10.00am I left Shirley in charge while I went to work. Got home just after 3pm, surprise, surprise, no sign of workmen but horrible smell of stripped walls. Greeted by Shirley with the news that workmen clocked off at 2.30pm they will return at "8.30"am on Monday. We can use the bath but not the shower as there are no tiles on the bathroom wall. Hmm, I trotted off up the stairs to see my new bathroom suite and lo and behold what do I see? The lazy Bastardos have stripped the walls and put an extractor fan in above the air vent WOW I am sooooo NOT impressed, let's see what next week brings? Roll on Monday! only NINE days to go!!
Day 2 - Monday 7.30am, up sharpish must be ready to let the plumber in at 8.30am. Will keep my Tshirt and dressing gown on and get ready for work nearer the time. 8.45 door bell rings, the electrician delivering a new toilet and wash basin, he informs me the plumber will be about 10 minutes. 9.00am door bell rings again, about time me thinks, only it's Mrs next door come to see how the work is going ha ha ha.
9.15 am, door bell goes again, at last the plumber, takes on look at my dressing gown and halfway back down the path asks if he should come back when I am ready. You can go up I told him, and Mrs next door appears again, this time with her iphone for me to make it work for her. Plumber leaves the house for a few minutes, plumber comes back and Mrs next door leaves, pretty quiet upstairs considering there is a bath, toilet and wash basin to be unplumbed, brought downstairs and disposed of??
9.25 plumber asks where stop cock is and goes back upstairs, still no sounds eminating from the bathroom. Has he gone to sleep? Aha. 9.36am can hear sound of some sort, being somewhat on the deaf side it is a little difficult to distinguish but sure sounds like he is at work, not vigorously or like in any hurry to get the job done but I suppose I should be grateful for small mercies. I am most certainly NOT going to offer him a cuppa. Just off to make one for me tho'
